The Cannibal Club was a radical Victorian dining club composed of various famous artists and intellectuals such as Dante Gabriel Rossetti, George Augustus Sala and William Morris. This club sought to analyze ‘deviant’ sexual behaviour by encouraging members (known as Cannibals) to undertake personal investigations into these taboo practices and report back with their findings. Through these explorations several members became supporters of a wide variety of rights movements including the Women’s Suffrage Movement.
